There is a LARGE underground group of people known as “KILL BUYERS” that attend auctions, go to feedlots, and even SHOW UP AT YOUR FARM looking for in-expensive horses so they can turn a HUGE profit.
YES, YOUR BARN! They will respond to ad’s for “FREE HORSE” listed on the internet. They pose as a loving family, Husband, Wife, and teen-age Daughter, and they will say “Oh, He’ll make the PERFECT HORSE for my little girl!”.
They will do this so well, you will forget to ask the most important question… “CAN I COME VISIT HIM ONCE IN A WHILE?” Kill buyers will walk away from the deal, because your horse will be dead in a few weeks!
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!? DEAD???
These Kill Buyers will ILLEGALLY ship your horse out of the country, to slaughter houses, so the horse can be rendered FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION, in Europe and Asia! It is considered a delicacy in Europe and will fetch $20.00 / pound for the meat.
Considering he paid $.41 / pound for the live horse at the auction. Even pregnant mares, retired Kentucky Derby winners, and little baby FOALS are killed.
The USDA does not regulate what chemicals / drugs are in the flesh of horses, because we do not eat horses here in this country… but consider all the “feed-thru” wormers, hormones, steroids, anti-inflammatories…. Things our BEEF cows are NOT ALLOWED to consume (because they don’t want YOU eating these chemicals).
I Don’t Believe You!
I Didn’t believe it either, until I heard of the Exceller Fund. Here’s an excerpt from their website:
“The Exceller Fund was started over 10 years ago by a group of racing fans who discovered this dark and grisly fate was happening to horses that they had cheered to victory not long ago…
Exceller was a big and powerful bay ridden to victory by none other than Bill Shoemaker. In his finest moment, he defeated two Triple Crown winners in a singe race in the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup over Seattle Slew and Affirmed. But this great victory was not enough to save Exceller when he was 23 years old. Considered old and useless, this exquisite champion was sent to a slaughterhouse to satisfy the appetites of European diners…
Ironically, 6 years later, another champion ridden to victory by the legendary jockey Bill Shoemaker met the same fate. Ferdinand’s victory in the 1986 Kentucky Derby was a milestone as Shoemaker became the oldest jockey to win the Derby. Sadly, in 2003 none of this could help Ferdinand when his owners felt he had no value and sent him to slaughter….”
To make matters worse, I typed in a search on YouTube for “HORSE SLAUGHTER”…. I watched 4 hours of the most horrific, in-humane practices we as humans can do.
Cows, Pigs, and most other animals are put to slaughter in relatively humane ways, but the same equipment used on cattle will not do the job correctly on a horse. They are then strung up by one hind leg, and are slit from belly button to chin with a knife and are left to BLEED OUT ALIVE!
In some facilities in southern countries, they don’t even spend the money on the modified bolt guns, they just use a large 8” kitchen knife, and stab repeatedly behind the head until the spine is severed.
